I got to know Jane when our families attended the same church and our friendship spans many years. She is the reporter that I endeavored to be when I was freelancing and stringing for news outlets in California and New York in the mid-2000's. Wells Street is funny, incisive, poignant and a really fun read.
I've been reading Tom's work on Fermentation since the early 2000's. I continue to consult it--and him--when I'm writing for the wine publications to which I contribute. His in-depth understanding of everything from agriculture to the three-tier alcohol distribution system are must reading.
El Gato Malo's irreverent style, combined with learned research and data driven analysis is among the more sane of opinions on the passing scene. Witty, sometimes funny and never taking himself too seriously-but taking deep dives into the facts and reporting on them with thoughtful, careful views.
